Shannon McAlister is breathing a breath of fresh air into the world of weddings and events with her creative and super romantic take on weddings. Her signature free-spirited style is evident in the intimate bohemian events that she plans.
I am so excited to be featuring Tin and Twine on the blog today as her work is absolutely inspiring. To date, we’ve featured quite a number of wedding planners on the blog, each one with their own unique style and offering to the industry. Shannon’s work is absolutely beautiful and her passion for designing unforgettable events stands out when looking at her work.
Tin and Twine is a modern event and design studio that started out as a hobby for Shannon. After planning her own wedding and thoroughly enjoying the experience, she found she missed the process and the excitement of putting together something so magical. Having been the event coordinator at a wine estate in Carmel Valley, CA as well as having experience in Marketing and Office Management, she put all of her experience and skills together to launch a side-business.
"The best thing I did was start and set the whole business into action."
She soon realized that she has a passion for planning and it’s grown to the point where it’s a steady “side-hustle”. Her plans for the company is to expand it to also offer furniture and décor for rent. This modern event and design studio creates unique events that focus on the client. Shannon enjoys the process of getting to know her clients so that she can mirror their personalities, preferences and specific style choices throughout the event.
Shannon values her clients and vendors equally. She prioritizes teamwork, stressing that no big day can be pulled off smoothly without everyone bringing their part. She looks for something unique in each vendor and loves finding a vendor that offers something a little out of the ordinary.
Her commitment to her clients is everything and she hit the nail on the head when she said the following in her interview:
"Being a wedding planner is so special to me, not only are Brides and Grooms trusting you to take control of their big day but they let you into their lives to share a very special moment with. I have cried at more client weddings than I can count!"
Shannon’s pretty proud of the fact she took the leap of faith to start Tin and Twine. It can be quite hard for creatives to narrow down their vision for their own brand as well as decide how to go about marketing their business and often the decision making can become a roadblock to success. Taking the plunge has not only allowed Shannon to get into something she absolutely loves doing but has also enabled her to get paid for following her passion.
The phrase “no it can’t be done” is a challenge to Shannon that she absolutely loves tackling and she finds creative ways to rise to that challenge. Being a craft lover, she’s also incredibly hands-on with brides who opt for the DIY wedding – picking up a glue gun and becoming part of the creation process makes her endlessly happy.
Planning weddings and designing the detail is more than just a passion for the creative side of the business for Shannon. Her favorite part is seeing the couple’s faces after the ceremony and relishing in the success of the day. Her part in making the big day a special and memorable one for the bride and groom gives her the motivation to tackle the next big challenge.
Her favorite trends? Donut trucks and specialized meals or snacks. She planned a wedding where the bride and groom (who had shared fries and milkshake on their first date) served oreo milkshakes and fries and it was a huge hit with the guests. It’s very often the little things that make a lasting impact.
Copper is also a favorite of Shannon’s at the moment and she loves the addition of this metal into any design or décor detail of the wedding. As Shannon loves to explore her creative side in a hands-on manner, she’s also enjoying creating backdrops for sweetheart tables and it’s a trend that she likes incorporating into her weddings.
The Tin and twine gallery is packed with inspiration. Each styled shoot or wedding is an absolute dream and the notion of intimacy is captured beautifully with her lovely natural settings and décor items. One of the things I noticed first when browsing the website is that Shannon absolutely knows how to make use of the surroundings and incorporate it into a beautiful and seamless styled concept. Many of her styled shoots are characterized by greenery and food platters (I am LOVING the food platters at the moment).
